More accurately, this was the principal "Gatehouse" of the Whitemarsh Hall estate, protecting the main entrance road. There were two other major entrances - another gatehouse (still extant) on Paper Mill Road, and a gated service entrance on Cheltenham Road (now Cheltenham Avenue). The service entrance gate piers and a small amount of fencing still survive, in front of a private residence.
