A part of the Fairmount Park System, Wissahickon Park extends for miles up the Wissahickon Creek's valley from the Schuykill River. Wissahickon Drive, known as 'Forbidden Drive' because cars are forbidden, begins at Lincoln Drive and continues upstream the length of the park. It is a wide, well-maintained gravel road open to pedestrians, bicycles and horses. On both sides of the river there are hiking paths.
The park protects an urbanized tributary of the Schuylkill River, which features a gorge and thick woodlands. It is designated a National Natural Landmark.
