Northport is owned and operated by Northport (Malaysia) Bhd. and comprises dedicated multipurpose port facilities and services. The Northport entity was a merger of two companies; Kelang Container Terminal (KCT) and Kelang Port Management (KPM). Its operations also cover South Port, which was renamed Southpoint for conventional cargo handling, and acquired Northport Distripark Sdn. Bhd. (NDSB) as part of its logistics division.
As of 2010, Northport is ranked amongst the world's top 20 ports. It is one of the most important hub ports in the Asian region, connecting itself to over 300 ports which offers extensive connectivity for worldwide imports and exports. At Northport, there are three dedicated container terminals to handle a capacity of over 4.9 mil TEUs. CT1, CT2 and CT3 are fully equipped with state-of-the-art handling equipment and facilities to meet the growing demand for container services. The three terminals offer a combined quay length over 3km and a depth alongside of 11.5 to 15 meters which are fully capable of accommodating vessels up to 120,000 displacement tonnes. The landside and container handling operations are supported by an array of quay cranes, prime movers, rubber tyred gantry cranes, straddle carriers, prime movers, trailers, forklifts and high stackers.
