The fifth turn on the Jerez Circuit is named for Alfonso "Sito" Pons Ezquerra, a former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. He won the 250cc World Championship with Honda in 1988 and 1989. After retiring from competition, Pons managed a Honda team in MotoGP, with Alex Barros and Troy Bayliss his 2005 riders, before he was forced out for 2006 due to a lack of funding. In 1990 he was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for his achievements in sports.
