Lafayette is the county seat of Tippecanoe County. It was platted in 1825 by William Digby and is situated near the center of the county on the east bank of the Wabash River. According to the United States Census of 1910, it was the only incorporated city in the county. Ninety-five years later there are now incorporated towns of Battle Ground, Clarks Hill, Dayton, Otterbein, Shadeland and West Lafayette, the Home of Purdue University.

Named after the famous 1811 Battle of Tippecanoe and organized in 1826, Tippecanoe County, Indiana is divided into 13 Townships as follows: Fairfield, Jackson, Lauramie, Perry, Randolph, Sheffield, Shelby, Tippecanoe, Union, Wabash, Washington, Wayne and Wea.

Home of Purdue University. Amelia Earhart was a "visiting faculty member: with the title of consultant on women's careers at Purdue University. In fact, the beautiful Lockheed 10-E Electra she flew into history was provided by the Purdue Research Foundation and at the conclusion of her proposed round-the-world flight would have been returned to Purdue for exhibit.

  • Number 34 in my list of counties to be traced out. Anybody living in these counties that wishes to put in information about them is more than welcome to. I only know more about Southwestern Indiana than the rest of the state, so I am only limited to what information I do know about them.
