The PM Hindu Swimming Bath and Boat Club was built during the British rule as there was no facility for Hindus to swim. There was Golwala Bath for Parsees and the Breach Candy Club for whites. The large 50 meter pool is for men and the smaller 25 meter pool is
for ladies. The men's pool uses sea water that is treated with chlorine etc. and the ladies pool uses tap water that is treated and disinfected.
Right outside the facility is a pedestrian bridge was built in circa 1953 over the roadway, Marine Drive.
was the first of its kind built in India at that time. In order to ensure privacy of the swimmers, advertising boards were placed in
strategic locations.

P M Bath & Boat Club is a premier place for then middle class people living in the surroundings of the Chrni Road. It has history and memories of many individuals linked with. I am a Life Member (1960) and I just love the place. I wish that management team will be able to retail its glory over the period of time.

How can I get a membership here.Who can get a membership here?

I checked their yesterday and they have stopped giving out new membership since 1995 as per the watchman of the gate. It might have been started for the middle class people (as Mr. Rambhia has said) but it seems they dont want to allow the new middle class to join them or in any way provide service to them and just to keep it amongst themselves and may be their children to continue with, since they are no longer middle class but turned into Mumbai's so called elite.

This swimming pool and club does not have a bar room. Atleast a permit room serving beer only - could have added to its status. It seems all and every hindu do not have beer??? !!
