Residence built for Sarah Sampson Adam, widow of John Henry Adam {New York Gas & Light Co.} c. 1878. It was designed by Potter & Robertson in the shingle Colonial style with landscaping by Beatrix Jones Farrand on land was inherited from her father, Isaac Sampson. In 1917, the estate was purchased by Richard Derby who was married to Ethel Roosevelt Derby who was the daughter of Theodore Roosevelt. Mrs. Derby resided here until her death in 1977.
Now the center of a town-house development known as Landmark Colony at Oyster Bay. The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
