According to legend, in olden times a thief named Talchon lived in the vicinity. One day, while robbing a rich merchant he broke his leg, but when he put his damaged limb in the waters of this spring, he was cured. Thus, the spring was named for him. In 1923 the Japanese built a resort here, which soon became famous. However, the complex was damaged by severe flooding in 1947 and bombed flat during the Korean War. Thus, the current buildings are not very old.
