  • BUILT ON THE FORMER VA HOSPITAL GROUNDS NOT A LANDFILL----
  • This was an industrial landfill with an entrance off of Oakwood Blvd. The VA Hospital was at the bottom of the hill on the site of Lowes.
  • This site was indeed an old clay mine turned industrial waste landfill. It had held waste from the Ford Rouge plant since the 1950's. The VA hospital was torn down to build Independence Marketplace at the bottom of the hill at the intersection of Southfield and Outer Dr. http://www.apwa.net/Resources/Reporter/Articles/2005/6/Ford-Allen-Park-Clay-Mine-Landfill---Fairlane-Green-Redevelopment
