In 2008, the City of Allen Park acquired the 773,000 sq. ft., Roush Technology Center for $28 million as part of a plan to attract Unity Studios to the community after it unveiled a plan to build a $146 million motion picture studio and create 3,000 jobs. Unfortunately, a change in state government resulted in the cancellation of the generous tax credits upon which the proposal was based and Unity Studios went back to California. As a result, the City of Allen Park, which borrowed the money to purchase the property, fell into financial difficulties and had to lay off police and firefighters.

Roush occupies 315,000 sq. ft., of the complex and Stautzenberger College fills an additional 40,000 sq.ft. Allen Park has listed the 104 acre property for sale.

Montgomery Ward - Visteon

The most westerly building was constructed in 1959 by Montgomery Ward as its first distribution center and surplus store outside of Chicago. Designed to serve five states, Ward's closed the center in 1985.

Sometime thereafter it was acquired by automotive parts maker Visteon which was spun off from Ford in 2001. Visteon utilized the property as its technical center until it relocated its head office to nearby Van Buren Township in 2005.
