The first frozen meat shipment from NZ to the UK originated from the Totara Estate Farm in 1882. The sheep were slaughtered in an especially built works, frozen, and railed to Dunedin, then shipped to England. Almost all carcasses arrived in perfect condition; very few were rejected.
