A 1960's residential area of Basingstoke. It had been in long decline and suffers in places from crime and bad design. It is now receiving much-needed regeneration and recently has had a new school opened. There are new developments planned to the north and within the estate.

  • Popley is well into its regeneration. The most problematic families were rehoused elsewhere, (ironically in area's that were considered nicer once) when a lot of the badly designed parts of the estate where bulldozed, and nicer modern new builds for shared ownership and affordable rent meant decent working families have moved in. It is quite, and alot more pleasant to look at with lots of green spaces, and of course parks, and the Carpenter Downs Woods. The area is served well with decent schools, and good transport/road links, and higher than average employment rates. I was determined to move out 5/6 years ago but am glad i stayed as Popley has become better than some of the other area's that used to look down on us. Guess every dog has their day :)
