Wai is an anicent town and has a long tradition of skilled weavers and learned Brahmins. Wai town is on the banks of river Krishna. This river originates from a holy place 'Mahabaleshwar' close by. Since ancient times, the civilizations progressed around water resources, Wai is a powerful example of ancient Indian water harvesting systems, called Ghat. A Ghat is an embankment with safety walls for preventing the entry of flood water and steps to access the flowing water.

Wai has seven ghats. As rivers are revered as 'Mother' the gratitude towards uninturrepted water supply is expressed by celebrating a festival 'THE KRISHNABAI UTSAV'. Wai is famous for marvelous temples and a famous spot for Indian movie shootings.

    Afzalkhan was from Wai. After he was slained by Chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Fajalkhan, eldest son of Afzal could manage to escape from shot of Bhavani. He and his sardar Musekhan, could reach Wai in early hours of 11-12 th november. Maharaj, immediately attacked Wai. He deputed Netaji Palkar for this job. But Fajal escaped from Wai.Netaji chased him but could not locate fajal due to darkness. He returned to Wai. Maharaj had already arrived there. He patted him for his brave efforts. Wai became part of Swarajya - a fresh breath of freedom after three centuries. There is wada of Afzalkhan.

    12-02-2009 . It was indeed a plesant moment to see my birth place WAI on a Sattelite MAP. Life at Wai was excellent those days i.e. during 1943 to 1960. It was a good decision to leave WAI ,and achieve further progress in my career. I am extremely happy and well setteled in my life . The foundation stones of my successful life were laid at WAI only.I am staying away from WAI, for the last 50 years, but my mind goes to WAI EVERY DAY . My mind takes takes a bath in the holy river KRISHNA , I PREY GOD and COME BACK TO DO MY DUYY . I am grateful to GOD for giving me an opportunity to take a birth at WAI.

    Wai: If some one ask me, from where your i am very proud to reply him/her that i am from Waiiiiiiiii & told them the History of wai from the ancient time to till How many songs & films shooting at Wai & so many places to visit like Mahaganpati temple & many small & big temples & ghat on bank of river Krishna, & only three KM from wai (W) near Krishna River there is big Wada of Nana Phadanvis & temple of lord Shiva, there is one more small town named Dhom, below of Dhom Dam, Dhom is also a Historical place there are so many temples & one Holy place called Gaymukh (the stone cow with continue water falling down in Krishna river). Wai is situated in around of mountain, the Panchgani ghat start from Wai. Panchgani is only 13 KM, Mahabaleshwar is only 32 KM, N H 4 Poona-Banglore only 12 KM Via Surur to Pune & Via Panchwad to Satara, N H 17 Bombay to Goa is 78 KM from Wai Via Mahabaleshar.     Wai is a very beautiful place. I lived here from February 2000 to September 2000.My newly married life starts from here. From my side, its a honeymoon place of all newly married couple. Now I am in Pune and planning to go there, to visit my old home. When I saw any Hindi film shot in Wai, I became very nostalgic.
