Former location for truck stop Walt's Transport Service Station from 1950 (originally located at 7201 North Milwaukee Avenue) until the 1960's (building demolished) and automotive repair center Transco from 1960's until early 1980's (building demolished). The current site is now a fast food restaurant chain, constructed and opened in the early 1980's. The building was later renovated in September 2019 and reopened on November 4, 2019.

Jerry and Marcelle Bear of the Bear Family Restaurants became the owners of this McDonald's restaurant since the 2010's. Bear Family Restaurants is an Elgin-based family-owned business that owns and operates 30 McDonald's locations throughout the Chicagoland area.

Serial killer John Wayne Gacy (born March 17, 1942 – executed May 10, 1994) was pulled over (at Milwaukee Avenue) by five police detectives and arrested him near this McDonald's on December 21, 1978 at 12:15pm. He was arrested after a police saw him hand a bag of marijuana to a gas station clerk.
