Between 1907 and 1908, this apartment building and nearby house were designed and built by prominent local architect David Webster, who also designed the "castle schools", the King George Hotel and many others.
Webster originally lived in the similarly designed house, and administered the next-door apartment building. In the 1950's, the apartments were "modernized" by removing many of the original design details/mouldings and streamlining everything into a "space-age" minimalist asthetic. The building slid into disrepair until the early 1980's when it was bought and eventually restored to much of its former glory. The Websters' house was divided into suites and attached to the apartemnt complex, and many of the original design elements, mouldings, and features of its earlier design were reinstated. Originally a brick building with wooden bay windows, these elements were plastered over during the course of renovations.
The building continues to thrive to this day as a very well-maintained and restored multi-unit character dwelling. It is also considered a very desireable place to live (as evidenced by the wating-list of prospective renters).
Former notable tenants include the former mayor Cliff Wright and his wife. This was their first home after being married.
