The total installed capacity of 800 MW is produced by four blocks of 200 mW. The plant was built between 1973 - 1979 in the former Manganese-pyrite enterprises, which had ended mining. The blocks were put into operation within one year - from the end of 1977 to the end of 1978. The plant was connected by Elbe waterway with the North Bohemian brown coal fields and ship transportation was here until mid-1996. The Chvaletice chimney reaches a height of 300 m and cooling towers are 100 m height and their diameter on the ground has 60 m.
