    Sidney Poitier grew up at the northern end of the island. (See "Sidney Poitier" in www.wikipedia.com) The Armbrister family...Royalists during the Revolution...were granted Cat Island by the King. Hemp (for rope) was the crop of the hour. Much later, one Armbrister went to Hollywood as a screenwriter. He, or his family, returned to re-occupy the island and established a great retreat.
