In these woods is a very short segment of the Confederate entrenchments used to defend Atlanta during the siege in August 1864. After the battle at Ezra Church, Hood (CS) gradually extended the city's fortifications southwestward through this area to protect the rail junction at the present day East Point MARTA station.
