  • Two Pinkerton Bend tunnels. North shore belonging to the former B&O Railroad and the other on the south shore belonging to the Western Maryland Railroad now part of the bike trail system between Pittsburgh and Washington DC. One thing people don't know is that the South Pennsylvania Railroad surveyed the south bank well before the Western Maryland ever came into Pennsylvania. southpennrailroad.com
  • Also the Western Maryland Railroad's Pinkerton Tunnel area had also been used by the B&O RR to get around on the detour track area we bike today. The SPRR was also surveying a line from Deeters Gap to Garrett to reach the now Great Allegheny Passage/Western Maryland RR.
