Rachel, Nevada

Started by local land owner D.C. Day in the mid-1970s as a trailer-park / mining-camp.
Some called the camp Tempiute Villiage and some called it Sand Springs.
A baby, Rachel Jones, was born here 15 February 1977 and six weeks later the camp (population c.200) was connected to the Nevada power grid, which made it (unofficially) a real town.
So it was agreed to rename the nascent town Rachel.
For years the first Saturday of April was "Rachel Day," in celebration of the two events. (Rachel Day has sinced been moved to May.)
These photos from the 2003 Rachel Day Parade were made by Jörg Arnu, courtesy of Dreamland.
