The Manila South Cemetery (also known as South Cemetery) within Makati City is one of the several large cemeteries in Metro Manila. This 25-hectare square-shaped is about the same size and shape as the University of Santo Tomás campus along España Boulevard, and is bordered at its northeastern corner by the smaller Makati Catholic Cemetery.
The cemetery is a territorial exclave of the City of Manila, making it an enclave of the capital in Makati. It is administratively part of the district of San Andrés, and previously of Sta. Ana; most maps show the graveyard highlighted as part of the city's jurisdiction.
The geopolitical situation of the South Cemetery provides for some interesting scenarios in law enforcement. While officers from the Metro Manila Western Police District (called "Manila's Finest") are in charge of the cemetery security (such as inspections at the gates and patrolling during the All Souls' holiday), policemen from the Metro Manila Southern Police District covering Makati handle traffic management around the site.
Notable burials in South Cemetery include Ramon Bagatsing, the longest serving Mayor of Manila, and previously Elpidio R. Quirino, the sixth President of the Philippines. The latter's remains were used to be buried in his tomb lying at the roundabout at the very center of the cemetery, before being transferred to the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
