Since the mid-1970s this piece of prime commercial real estate has seen nearly 30 different bars/clubs/restaurants occupy this site. All of them have failed. Most have lasted less than a year. One tenant even had a ferris wheel as a gimmick. The portion of the building housing the wheel can still be plainly seen to passerby. Last occupant was $3 Dollar Cafe. It is a mystery and running joke amongst local bar owners why such a prime site attracts such a high failure rate.

  • It should be noticed, however, that at least part of the reason the $3 Cafe failed was because prices STARTED at three dollars and went steadily up from there. The joke among people who patronized the place was that cokes were $3, if you wanted a napkin to go with it, that was seven bucks. It was a fun place, though, sorry to see it go.
