  • Please clean the pond
  • old timers of tirur say that there is a well in the centre of the pond and on some occasion 200 years back or so the large assortment of gold ornaments of the temple were dumped in ihe well to avoid plundering. Though there may not be any record for this my grandfather late p. a. hariharaiyer(1877-1972) had told me in my childhood days that the public in tirur had seen the rim of the well during one summer on a rare occasion of temple- cleaning during peak summer when water level is low and can be pumped out easily. having sighted the well towards dusk the managing committee of which he was also a member decided that the next day cleaning of the well would be decided if at all. All members were unanimous that it will be done only in the presence of a magistrate and that if any ornaments were to be found they would be put back in the well. Security was also posted to guard the pond from any misadventure. As if it was a miracle, that night there was a very heavy thundershower and the next day the pond was full. Some one from punnakkal tharawad might be able to throw some light on it or elders from adv. kesavans family. this might have been in the 1920s or even earlier. my grandfather was a lawyer then. pvh_46@yahoo.co.in
