"Mitcham's Corner" was originally Charles Mitcham's draper's store on the corner of Chesterton Road and Victoria Avenue, from 1909 to 1977 (until recently the Two Seasons Sports Shop). Mr Mitcham had a sign over his corner premises proclaiming "MITCHAM'S CORNER" and it became a well-known local landmark. The name later became associated with the 1960s gyratory traffic system, covering a much wider area.
