Monroe County Airport is a public airport with two runways. The longest runway is a 6500 asphalt paved runway. Approximately 100 planes are based out of this airport. As of 2006, scheduled service is not available from this airport. FBO services and car rentals are available.

It was originally named Kisters Field to honor Gerry Kisters, a local resident who won the Medal of Honor during World War II. It is usually now referred to as just the Monroe County Airport.

Noted entertainer Ray Charles had a brush with death at this airport. On October 19, 1985, the chartered 4-engine plane carrying the singer and his band ran off the north end of the primary runway while landing in heavy rain and slid down a hill into a cornfield. The pilot suffered a back injury, but all the passengers only suffered minor injuries.

  • The airport was last in the news as the site where the "Barefoot Bandit" stole a small plane and flew to The Bahamas where he was finally captured.
