  • its amazing.. i enjoy my stay here.... :D
  • This island like the other islands was once surrounded by a live dark coral reef. At high tide there was white sand under water between the beach & the dark coral reef. At low tide the area of white sand under water diminished & the dark coral reef was very close to the now larger beach area. In 1970 the coral reef disappeared leaving white sand with dead coral fragments. It is thought that fisherman used dynamite to either kill fish or to obtain the coral for road building. The destruction of the coral reefs was at a time when preservation of nature was not understood nor enforced. As a child, I visited the island for fishing, swimming and for a curry lunch. Our family was normally the only visitors to the island on the weekend. There were no tourist facilities and the interior of the island was overgrown jungle. We used to visit with our speed boat from the Kinabalu Yacht Club. Refer to the "sandbar" ~3.5 km ESE of here next to the mainland beach.
