SRI Sundaravalli Rajyalakshmi sametha Bhavanarayana swamy Temple

Telugu: One of the oldest temples in Guntur District. It's Gopuram was built from a single rock. It is beleived to be 1500 year old, and some of the inscriptions on the wall are in Telugu script which was still evolving at that time. Chariot festival in summer used to be lot of fun and common people can participate by pulling the Lord's Chariot up to Anjaneyaswamy temple and back.

It is still a fact that many people(saints, seekers, sadhakas, devotees and common people) feel some unknown power, calmness, peace in the temple.

The Temple was built by Chola kings 1500 years ago in stone. The Galigopuram was built 200 years ago by Jamindar of Challapalli Sri Raja Vasireddi venkatadri Naidu in Brick and mortar. On 23 Oct 2011 this Galigopuram structure collapsed. But the Rock built anicient temple is intact and the Archeological Survey of India is renovating the strucutres in Dec 2011.

  • Very sad news! The gopuram collapsed yesterday. My last visit was in Feb 2011. Hope that some initiatives will be taken to rebuild it soon. This is the second land mark in Bapatla to disappear. Clock tower was demolished last year in road expansion plan. Both are my childhood memories.
