  • Perthcelyn is an old mining town. It is honestly, not the best of places to be. However statistically the crime rate is low, although there are some reports of Anti-social behaviour. However that being said there are a lot of nice people in Perthcelyn and a lot of people who work and make their places look nicer. The Brynheulog estate or the estate with the red roofs is the oldest part of Perthcelyn and also the best part, the majority of homes in that area are privately owned. On the otherside with the grey topped is a rather less appealing area. Again the people are nice, but the majority have tougher lives and less wealth. There are two local community focal points. One is the 'Nip it in the Bud' group that works in tandem with the Tri Yn Un flag ship Communities First project. The Tri Yn Un themselves are located nextdoor to the old community centre and work extremely hard. The Perthcelyn Primary school is a good school and recommended by many of the parents. As a resident I hope I've given you an insight into the area. I'd recommend that you give it a chance, there aren't many places where people...strangers, will say hi to you in the middle of the street and offer a smile. It's a nice place to live as far as I'm concerned.
  • Perthcelyn is known as the lost city for the simple reason it high up in the mountain ash valley, but for no reason does it not have the features other places have. Perthcelyn has some of the best features in the cynon valley with a very good school, a community centre, a training centre awhere community first partnership is placed, 2 playgrounds, a grass field for sports as well as 2 concrete multi purpose areas for sport, 2 newsagents and a good bus service, not forgetting the phone box and the nip it in the bud youth club and a week community first youth drop in!!! Perthcelyn also has good cctv coverage with 3 cctv camera run by the local authority. The perthcelyn are very friendly and welcome any body but does involve a few gangs and people who choose to drink and take drugs instead of work but that's they choice and they more than welcome if they keep it to themselves!! Crime rates are low and may young people of perthcelyn are well educated due to the good primary school and the acess to a good secondary school. Perthcelyn is classed as deprived but I blame this on the number of unemployed people who choose not to work and drink alcohol and take drugs which causes health problems! So in my view perthcelyn has something to offer if your willing in life and don't want the benefits option and willing to stop the deprived status and see that perthcelyn is bad!!!
  • JUST FOUND YOUR PAGE AND READ KCHILDHEART'S COMMENT ABOUT PERTHCELN. I BEG TO DIFFER ABOUT BRYNHEULOG BEING THE OLDEST PART. 'THE GREY ROOFS' PART IS THE OLDEST. FROM HAWTHORN TCE. DOWN TO WILLOW TCE WAS BUILT LONG BEFORE BRYNHEULOG WHICH WAS A FARM. I WAS BORN 18, ASH GROVE IN 1942 THEN MOVED TO 17 HAZEL TCE.
  • looking for information regarding the late KENNY BARNES and relatives...thankyou
  • I have to agree with Jess on the Red and Grey roofs. I was born at 8 Hawthron Tce in 1955 and although I remember Brynheulog it was fairly new as I remember growing up and considerably younger than Hawthorn Tce/Ash Grove etc, also I recall it as being the 'council estate'.The dark roof houses were rented (enmasse no doubt also from the council but not classed as your typical council estate). Futhermore there was never any 'well' off or 'poor' half of Perthcelyn and I disagree with the observation and the suggestion that Brynheulog was a better area is completely innacurate..in fact quite the contrary as I remember as a child. The fact was that nobody was what you would call really well off in Perthcelyn barring possibly a few professionals in the area. I had great memories as a child before moving to Ynysybwl in 1966, especially the winter of 63 when we were cut off. The ongoing 'battles' with the Tynt kids
  • I lived in perthcelyn from 1948approx until 1962 i lived in oak the and I really appreciated my time being brought up in a place that I loved being in my childhood and as a youth was incredible i had many friends good friends and i remember brynheulog being built happy days
