The HOLLINGER GOLD MINE, discovered in 1909 by Benny Hollinger, was once the richest gold producer in the Western Hemisphere. Over its history it produced 19 million ounces of gold.
Goldcorp now owns the mineral rights, and encouraged by the rapidly rising price of gold, in 2007 resumed exploration for new veins.
