Charles Island (Milford, Connecticut)

USA / Connecticut / Milford / Milford, Connecticut
 island, state park, animal sanctuary

Bird sanctuary - allegedly home to Captain Kidd's treasure.
Part of Silver Sands State Park
It is possible to walk to the island at low tide over the tombolo (rock/sandbar). You must be very careful when making this trek. Be familiar with the tides. During the summer, ask the park staff if it is safe to go out on the sandbar. During the summer season, the interior of the island is closed to visitors because of nesting birds. Venturing past the warning signs is a violation of State and Federal laws.

Do not attempt to walk out to the island any later than 1 hour prior to sunset. Silver Sands closes at sunset and if the park staff cannot find you, your vehicle will be locked in the park.
