About five miles southeast of Fort Drum the railroad constructed a station and gave it the name Hilolo (sometimes written: "Hilo" or "Hilola") in 1914, when the Kissimmee Valley Extension (Kenansville East Branch) of the Florida East Coast Railroad was completed through Fort Drum. The town grew to have a population of around 500, but when the railroad line discontinued service, the area's population disappeared. The railroad bed is still visible from Okeechobee to south of Orlando.
