Bolshoy Pogranichny island

Finland / Kymenlaakso / Virolahti /

Rus.: Остров Большой Пограничный ("Big Frontier island").
Fin.: Paatio.
Swe.: Båtö.

Before the second world war Paatio was a flourishing Finnish village of more than 200 inhabitants. Now it is totally destroyed and empty. The people lived from fishing and small scale agriculture.

On the second photo (author E. Glazkova) you can see old finnish stone-pit on Paatio island.

Comments

  • I think, there was no people in Soviet time. Because there was totally abandoned frontier zone. Only frontier guarders lived and live here.
  • Now, there, must be - a wilderness nature.
