Kaufmann's Grand - EVEN Hotel Pittsburgh Downtown (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

USA / Pennsylvania / Pittsburgh / Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania / 5th Avenue, 434
 hotel, interesting place, apartment building

Founded in 1871 by a German Jewish immigrant, Kaufmann's department store (and its legendary clock) was a Pittsburgh staple for decades, with the traditions of cheery windows at Christmas and the famous "Tic Toc Restaurant". The chain was converted to Macy's in 2006 and the flagship store finally closed in 2015.

The former Kaufmann's building was rebuilt with a hotel on the fifth and sixth floors, and apartments on the upper floors. There are plans for retail on the lower levels, but the conversion has run into financial difficulties.
