Canada recognized Algeria’s independence in 1962, and diplomatic relations followed in 1964. About 60,000 people of Algerian origin reside in Canada, primarily in the Montreal area, and today Algeria is Quebec’s third largest source of immigrants.
Canada has an Embassy in Algiers; Algeria has an Embassy in Ottawa and a Consulate General in Montreal.
