For all non-urgent business please contact the Consulate in advance for an appointment.
This mission is staffed by an Honorary Consul who provides basic assistance such as notarial services and passport and citizenship application forms. Canadians visiting or residing in Namibia who need full consular services should contact the High Commission of Canada in Pretoria, South Africa.
Canada established formal diplomatic relations with Namibia upon its 1990 independence. Canada’s High Commission in Windhoek closed in 1993, and since then Canada has been represented in Namibia by its High Commission in Pretoria, as well as an Honorary Consul in Windhoek. Namibia is accredited to Canada through its Embassy in Washington, D.C., with an Honorary Consul in Waterloo, ON.
Canada strongly supported Namibia’s independence, and provided military peacekeepers, police monitors, election supervisors and technical experts. On the global stage Canada and Namibia actively cooperate in areas such as the Kimberley Process (to control the trade in conflict diamonds), initiatives to control high seas overfishing, and the commercial seal harvest.
