Embassy of Canada / Ambassade du Canada (new site)
66 Boulevard Mehdi Ben Barka
PO Box 2040 Rabat-Ryad
Souissi Quarter
RABAT, Morocco
In June 2014 Canada relocated its embassy to this 1.2 hectare site with a $12 million (CAD) purpose-built secure compound containing a main chancery building and two gatehouses.
The chancery in the centre of the site hosts 4,613 sq metres in two adjacent yet contrasting pavilions which symbolize a meeting place for two cultures.
The two-storey office wing encloses a central courtyard garden with an exterior finished with masonry and stone, reflecting traditional Moroccan values.
The single-storey Canadian-style public reception centre consists of wood, glass and metal that opens onto a water-themed garden, conveying a feeling of transparency.
