The new Moscow Cathedral Mosque has been built at the site of the former one which was demolished in 2011. The new mosque was officially inaugurated on September 23, 2015, the eve of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. The $170m mosque took 10 years to complete and was entirely funded by private donations. The new mosque can accommodate 10,000 worshippers.

The Moscow Cathedral Mosque is the main mosque in Russia. The original mosque was built in 1904 according the design of architect Nikolay Zhukov. Also nicknamed "Tatar Mosque" due to Tatar dominance. It is also known as the 'Blue Mosque' amongst foreign Muslims because of its colour. Sells halal meat with small restaurant.
