Church of St. George on Pskov Hill (Moscow)

Russia / Moscow / Moscow / ulitsa Varvarka, 12
Russian Orthodox Church, 17th century construction, object of cultural heritage of federal importance (Russia), Orthodox church

This is a red brick, five-domed structure whose four blue cupolas are studded with gold stars. Merchant traders of Pskov built this lovely church in 1657-1658. The Baroque light blue bell tower and pale green north chapel or porch were added in 1818. Built into a steep hill, the church looks somewhat squat. In accordance with Pskov custom, the lower level was divided into vaulted chambers to be used as storehouses.
