"This 1849-mid 1850s gold mining town was located along Carson Creek and SH 140, about four miles west of Mariposa. Just east of Agua Fria Creek, there is an historical marker denoting the site of Louis de BLAINVILLE’s 1850s era tannery at Carsons. In the 1930s there were still ruins of several buildings, including the Carson General Store.

"In 1853 had mostly canvas tent “buildings” with two wooden ones. The later housed a gambling house and a house of “ill-repute.”"
