Ancient petroglyphs on the west side of a hill. It's on private property, but if you just respectfully walk in and look, you probably won't get in trouble.

  • Its open and easy to see. Look for the figure pointing to a rock and holding a rope. He is showing us how he hung from that rock by a rope to make that design. Be aware that the Hawaians feel this is a sacred plece. I kinda felt that too.
  • We used to be able to drive in, as it was the edge of a cane field and people lived further up the road. There were concrete piers and steel rails which were once put in place to help see them. Some kids desecrated them with spray paint and scratching their own rocks over the very old images. There's a surfer on one face, a double hulled crab-claw-sail voyaging canoe, along with other interesting images. Best to be their in the early morning or late afternoon for the best viewing. The story goes is that people would walk thru the West Maui Mountains to get to Iao valley & Wailuku from here at Olowalu.
