Escape Road is normally not open for vehicular traffic. It exists to provide an evacuation route if the main roads become inaccessible. It starts at Chain of Craters Road, near the Mauna Ulu/Napau Crater parking area, and ends at State Road 11, Mamalahoa Hwy.
Escape Road is open for bicycles, horses and hikers.
The marked region indicates an obviously visible section of the road. Other sections can be seen as well. Some sections of the road cannot be seen because of dense forest or clouds; however, the green path indicates the complete road.
