"On 01 June 1943, the Department of the Army acquired 210 lease acres for use as a rifle range. Site improvements included a target area consisting of an earth mound supported by a concrete retaining wall, and a small wood frame building adjacent to the retaining wall. The lease was terminated on 30 June 1978."

During the period from 1943 until 1945, the range was used by units from the Western Signal Aviation Unit Training Center at Camp Pinedale, Hammer Army Air Field, and the Army Training Center, Fresno. From 1945 until 1978 the range was used for small arms training by units from the California Army National Guard, the Air and Army Reserve, the Air National Guard, and the Marine Corps. Since 1978 the site has been privately owned and used for cattle grazing.
