Nice little lake, not very busy, not very good fishing, boating is good though.

  • Before the attacks of September 11, 2001, the Army Corp of Engineers provided guided tours of the dam, both exterior and interior. Of particular interest is a long room at the end of which is an opening through the wall of the dam. Inside the opening is a suspended wire connected to the top of the dam and extending all the way to the bottom. Behind the wire is a guage that allows engineers to determine how much the blocks that comprise the dam have shifted over time. This is important because the dam was constructed as a concrete gravity dam, meaning the dam is made of large individual blocks of concrete that are held together not with mortar or cement, but by their enormous weight.
