place with historical importance, roundabout / junction island
In Dutch this roundabout is called a 'verkeersplein'... This is one of two left in the Netherlands. There are of course many roundabouts but this one is unique because of its layout. It used to be known for its many traffic accidents.
Constructed in 1962 (together with former national highway 23 to Hoevelaken) in order to get rid of through-traffic in Amersfoort. In 2003 and 2005 various alterations have been made to the original layout in order to increase traffic safety.
