Soesterberg (ICAO: EHSB) is the oldest airfield in The Netherlands and birthplace of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (Dutch:KLu, Koninklijke Luchtmacht). It has long been in use by the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE), but the last F-15s of the 32d Tactical Fighter Squadron (Slobberin' Wolfhounds) left in 1994, after 40 years, from Camp New Amsterdam - the name of the US base named after New Amsterdam, the 18th century settlement now known as New York.

The Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) used the base for the Fokker F-27 Troopship, but they also left the base not long after the F-15's. Nowadays, it is in use by the helicopters of the 298 squadron with Chinooks, and 300sq with Cougars and the last operational Dutch Alouettes.

The base was closed on 31 December 2008, transferring operational units to Gilze-Rijen and Volkel Air Force Base.
