stadium, american football stadium
The main football stadium for the Akron Zips football team constructed as part of The University of Akron's New Landscape for Learning program. The university decided to build a new stadium due to the increasing maintenance cost of the Rubber Bowl Stadium located 6 miles off campus. To build the stadium, surrounding properties had to be demolished. The stadium broke ground in February 2008 and was built at a cost of $61.6 million. The first home game was played in September 2009 where the Akron Zips defeated Morgan State.
The stadium holds 27,000 spectators in its main seating area with capacity for 3,000 more at the grassy knoll on the south end as well as the 5,000 seat student section (the "Roo Zoo"). The seven-story tower on the west end features 80,000 sq ft of academic space as well as restrooms and concession stands. The fifth floor features the Kaulig Companies Club Level which features 522 Club Seats, 38 luxury boxes, two bar areas, and upscale concessions, the Seventeen Suites level which includes 16 private suites, and one presidential suite, and the Montrose Auto Group Press Level. The locker rooms are located on the lower-most level of the tower along with a visitor's welcome center built in 2013, and a team shop on the south-most end of the tower.
The stadium is named after Akron-based InfoCision Management Corporation with the play field named after Akron-based Summa Health System.
