JUDGE’S BAY
In 1841 Judge Martin and Attorney General Swainson arrived in
Auckland with houses in prefabricated sections. Swainson built
on the west side and the Martins on the east of this bay. The little
chapel of St. Stephen’s built in 1857 is all that remains of this time.
Known as Taurarua ‘the two ropes’ it is thought that this name
referred to the two administrators of British justice.
