The Chislehurst Caves are a long series of tunnels in Chislehurst, which were dug in the Middle Ages to mind chalk and flint being first recorded in 1250, and were used up to 1830. They became a tourist attraction, but in World War II became a handy air-raid shelter from the Blitz. They have even been used as a music venue. It is still possible to visit the caves.
