Voice of America Relay Station, Delano (closed)

USA / California / Delano / Melcher Road, 11015
 military, antenna, radio station

The VOA Delano site operated from 1943 until 2007, built originally by CBS as a commercial station (call sign KCBR) and later used by the government. Like the VOA relay station in Dixon, CA, Delano first used 200kW and dual channel 50kW shortwave antennas. The site was later upgraded to the more familiar 500kW curtain (Sterba) antennas in place today.

VOA Delano was the first of the Office of War Information (OWI) stations to go on the air. The other two WWII-era stations under construction at the same time were NBC's station at Dixon and Crosley's at Bethany, Ohio.
