  • My late dad did some Army training there during World War II. Said the poison oak plants and rattlesnakes were a nuisance.
  • roberts is a historic location with regard to world war II mobilization. the old barracks are crumbling to ruin, including chapels, gyms, and mess halls. you could film post-apocalypse zombie movies there.
  • While stationed at Ft. Carson, CO I was sent twice TDY to train with the 40th Infantry Division California National Guard at Camp Roberts. One trip I was assigned to a Chemical Decontamination Company out of Anaheim, CA. The last trip out there I was assigned with one of the Brigade Headquarters out of Fort MacArthur, CA. Except for the dreadful heat and dust it wasn't too bad.
  • I just checked the Main Post (zoomed in) area and it looks like most of the old WWII era barracks and buildings have been torn down. As I mentioned in my above comment when I was here in the mid-80's it was like a small city on all sides of the airfield area. I guess like so many former military installations they are being de-commissioned and either turned back over to the states. This country is in for a real hurt if we ever get into another war on the scale of WWII or Korea. There will be no training areas left to train the millennials that will be drafted.
